One way of stopping 'the 'hotshot trash it to death' driver who piles into the beginner and then rants that his car's been broken by a newbie' during free practice time, is to not allow drivers to drive the wrong way around the track or even up and down on the start straight. If a small link piece was put in at the first corner creating an almost tight oval this would at least mean cars are heading in the same direction while warming up. I have to admit that I have only been down twice but track etiquette seems to be lacking, having seen someone drive the wrong way along the track and hit another car, at speed, breaking the car which was going the right way. I know that some have said that they are willing to turn up for a beginners night but how many really will? As has been suggested why not have a novice class on normal race night, when most of the 'experts' are going to be there and able to offer advice and help? If there are only three cars in this class, so what at least they will be racing each other and are unlikely to get in the way of the 'super stars'. they will learn their car craft safely and hopefully continue to attend. |

Can't disagree with anything you've said Tony, etiquette is lacking by both new and experienced drivers. The loop idea is one that could be taken on board.
Like anything else, if you don't try it you won't know - the beginner's night is just that - I've helped some people that can't even manage to drive when the car's coming towards them, let alone navigate a track -they're the sort that need time to potter around at their own pace. On a race night we are a little restricted where the light is concerned, running a purely novice race makes the night another heat longer. Most of the time the booking in helps to rank drivers so the less experienced all end up in the first race anyway.
Obviously if we have a lack of learners on the said night, then those attending to help get to use the track for practice. Undoubtedly, as we all know, there will be the usual few, hardcore stalwarts that turn to help and the rest of the membership will just poo-poo the idea. |

i think its a good idea to have a seperate time for beginers as normal race nights can be of putting to newbies ,and the more experienced are often to busy sorting there cars and marshaling to help newbies . i remeber how i felt when i first started and i hated it . ( still do some times when my trucks not going right and i cant figure it out ) some people may not come back if there thrown in the deep end |

As we appear to have some agreement that a separate beginners evening would be a good idea. Can we put it forward as a definite suggestion of a Thursday night (weather permitting),and if its not successful no harm done, at least we tried. We would need to advertise the evening on the forum at the model shop and in the local paper, the last one I should be able to sort. |

Now for another suggestion. Just a thought but if racing is rained off on Tues night how about Rescheduling the race meet for Thursday night. Also as the nights are drawing in how about from September moving race night to Saturday afternoon say 1pm untill 4pm.
As I say just some thoughts please comment. |

Tues to Thurs was mentioned last night Dave because not many turned up but we raced anyway track was perfect only just damp to stop the dust flying. Saturday is a better for us as i work alternate Sundays and the time is ok and the nights are drawing in fast it was pretty much dark by 8.45pm last night |

I agree with Dave The Stuntman that our night time Racing will soon be over due to the dark nights. Saturday afternoon would obviously be a good time, but we should canvass people to see which time/day at the weekend is best for the majority. We would also have to make sure we can get hold of the Race Timing Equipment.
Obviously being a married man I can decide when I go racing unlike these single people who have important things to do like recovering from hangovers washing there hair etc.

i agree with jackboot alot of racers work allweek and do not get home until 6 o clock and then have to get all their stuff in a car and drive there if they are lucky be there for 6.30 7 o clock so it would be better to ask poeple if they would be able to race on a saterday. carl

Chaz, You must be a special kind of married man that "you" can decide! Try that in my house and you'd see new baubles a hangin'.......
Eh up! Scooby, I hope you don't bowl like you drive - flat out down the straight and turn sharp right.
