In response:
1) as we're a new club and have to share access with another motorsport venue we can't even think about private hire - yet 2)not all cars are suitable for our track - it was designed for 1/8th nitro rally cross - fulfillng all the basic requirements on track design as outlined in the BRCA handbook 3/4)I understand that the Baja buggy is an excellent model for a 1/5th scale racing machine - unfortunately I don't think there are many tracks that support 1/5th due to their size and the need for a larger area to race on. I think there is a track in Cambridgeshire / Northamptonshire and another in Nottinghamshire - check out http://www.maxbashing.com/ for more information.
If you're new to nitro off-road, might I suggest you visit your nearest club (hopefully ours) see what's being run and supported by the local drivers, seek their advice and make your choice based on all the above points.
Remember that the initial purchase is only the start, the subsequent running costs can mount up too - these are not just the parts you need for repairs when you break it (and you will...)but the optional 'hop-up' parts as you become a better driver and feel the need for better performance.
It's not always necessary to have the biggest, baddest, most expensive truggy /buggy on the market - if you want to race, then reliability plays a very important place - starting out with something that you know will start and run reliably for the length of your race gives you a better than average chance of finishing, and eventually winning. Remember the adage, 'to finish first, first you have to finish' ( I should heed those words myself...)
It's a great sport, full of like minded idiots that like to spend their free-time standing in fields amidst the noise. smell and the muck of an off-road track. Those idiots will help wherever possible - take the mickey whenever possible - but it's all done in the best possible taste.
Hope this helps, anything else you'd like to know - just ask. |
