Expensive?....do the maths, one radio and enough sets of crystals to race at any meeting or one spektrum / 2.4 Ghz conversion - and don't forget the up side of no glitching, interference, no waiting for a peg - no pillock who didn't wait for 'your' peg and you stuff your car into a wall due to frequency clash - and the parts cost to repair - and the pillock won't pay.
Suddenly doesn't seem that expensive anymore.....but you are right about the steering wheel tranny - sticks are better

Just had a look at Howes models of Oxford - http://www.howesmodels.co.uk/RadioControl/viewProduct.php?ProdID=1253 £ 139.99

or http://www.scmodels.co.uk/spektrum-dx30-dsm-radio-set-1-x-tx-2-x-rx-2-x-servos-p-2384.html at £170 obviously with a wheel,

or more to your liking Ian, with sticks and suitable for park flyers (aeroplanes to the ignorant )
http://www.geedee-modelshop.com/detail.asp?fldLowStocks=2&ProductID=5546&SubCategoryID=394 at £145 but check the deal

Just remember that Steve at Access sells all the above equipment - and I believe that you should Support your local Store

Flight Spektrum radio is illegal for land use, it transmits on 2 signals at once.

Cheapest route for stick Spektrum is either:

Futaba 3VC
Futaba 3GR
Hitec Eclipse
Sanwa Super Exzes

and the appropriate module. Should be something useable on ebay.

if you want spectum on sticks it works out at around £300-£400 that is because you have to buy a stick handset that is module based then you have to buy the spectrum module to fit in to the hand set
