As the subject says. What else do you do for fun besides RC car racing, and tell us a bit about it
I sometimes think I have way to many hobbies

I took up photography last year. I mostly take motorsport photos, of which a few are in the photograph section of the forum. This also means that I go to more motorsport events through the year than I used to, and currently *trying* to plan this years calendar to get to as many races as I can!

I have played the guitar since I was about 11, but Im not amazingly good at it. I *currently* own 2 guitars and a bass guitar.

Racing sims... As much as Id like to compete in real life motorsport, I simply cant afford it, so motorsport simulations are the next best thing to me. I was lucky enough to be in a race with Champ car and Nascar driver A J Allmendinger, and Team Seat BTCC Driver, and LeMans GT1 winner Darren Turner. There are quite a few other drivers who use the sim aswell.

The only sport i really do is mountain biking. Me and a couple of freinds go once or twice a week, usually at night! Night riding is alot of fun, and completely transforms the usual trails we are used to. We sometimes go around Rutland Water, or go over to Sherwood Pines near Mansfield. I also *refuse* to wear lycra!!! I find motocross jerseys and 3/4 length trousers are far more comfortable

I used to play golf and go fishing, which I hope start again this year.

Anyway, thats enough about me. How about you?

(Told you I had to many hobbies )

I have work and a family....and the occasional holiday - and then more work. the rest of my hobbies are just a pipe dream. That why I would love to retire - to get time to finish all of my 'projects'

Tom, Lycra? aaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Ahhhh dirt jumping :-D Spent many a day building jumps when I was at school. Never got the hang of it though :-( What bike are you building jjames? Ive got a scott reflex 20 for X country duty, then a Canondale Gemini 900 for anything else. There is a quarry not far from my house which me and a few freinds muck about it in, although its a new dicipline for me. Hoping to do some drop offs this year though. Looking forward to the new bike park which is being built in Sherwood Pines aswell. Here are some piccys if your interested....

Me and my bike. And yes the padding is quite neccesary. You cant see the body padding, arm guards and shin/knee pads. Some of the slopes are Very steep, and as you can see in the pics there are plenty of rocks e.t.c to crack your head open on! The bike has 8" travel all round and Hydraulic disc brakes with 9" rotors. Ps Phil, Thats what i normaly wear when riding x country, except I dont wear any pads helmet e.t.c. I hate the lycra look

Drop off on the left varies from 1.5 - 2.5ft high depending where you ride off it, then another 20ft down into the bottom of the quarry. Hoping to do the 1.5ft one this summer. The one on the right is rocky for about the first foot or so, then smooth all the way down. Bike dosent leave the ground on that one. When riding both lines, all you can see is a gaping hole in the ground about 50ft deep in places. You see the route you will be taking when about 1ft from the edge! Just hold on tight and get ready for the compression at the bottom. Thats when all the 8" of your suspension magically dissapear! The photo is deceiving. I was stood on another pile of rocks when I took it.

And a closer pic of my Canondale

when I was into jumping I had a DaBomb xlr8r in camo with some dodgy DNM forks. Halo combat rims which are VERY strong. Hope minis all round, which i was very disapointed with, Truvative Husselfelt crankset. I was going to change to an Identiti Dr Jeckyll frame and DJ 1 forks, but then realised I like *freeride* alot more, so went that route instead. The bike was bombproof though, my freind has it now. He jumped a double at sherwood pines, and the front wheel hit the lip of the landing, sending him flying over the bars. The only thing broken was the seat somehow. The front wheel was still completely true. Although my canaondale takes about twice the effort as the da bomb to pedal on level ground, I had the most comfortable ride back to the bike shop to buy a new seat lol!!

I have to ask though, whats Diablo?

Ah yes. DMR V8's and V12's can cause some serious carnage!! Been there, still got the scar..... My freind useds SPD's on his freeride bike, but I think he has lost the plot!! I do like them on my XC bike though, but its embarrasing when a dog runs straight at you, you slam on the brakes, then cant get your feet unclipped and topple over into a patch of nettles (yes I did that...)

Hmm cant see the piccys. I have never seen anyone at the quarry, I dont know if anyone would be that bothered if they saw us in there to be honest. Id be more bothered about the people who go and dump all there rubbish in there...

Would the quarry suitable for a bit of impromptu nitro racing when it's light and dry?

Nice jumps jjames! Me and a freind built a jump on his farm. We buried a fridge inside it so we could build it quicker. I went over on my bmx, went over the bars and landed face first on the floor. My head was pounding for a day, but then spent about 3 weeks not being able to eat properly because I had cut up the inside of my mouth. I always wear a helmet now when doing silly things on bikes lol!
As for racing in the quarry. No. I think the only reason we have gotten away with biking in there is because we dont make any noise, so no one knows we are in there. There are big signs near the back entrance saying "No Motorsport" e.t.c, and the main gate is covered in barbed wire. We know the risks of going in there, but its such a great place to ride. If you want to check it out though, go for a bash in there. There are lots of good obstacles e.t.c. Great for rock crawling.
