Carrot, chimp? surely banana would be more fitting?
But yes, it does look great! |

To be fair, the hard work was done by a couple of mates of Chris's - they have this amazing machine that simply digs up what's in front, chewed up ALL the concrete, bricks, stone - and anything else that was lying around and turned it into ickle, lickle bits and spewed it out the back. Then they just spread it around with a digger thing. (good with the terminology aren't I?)
Mark spent the day there removing as much metal out of the spoil - but it is something we will have to be cautious of, we can't be responsible for tyres, so keep an eye out.
It has cost the club money and fair words - but I'm sure you'll agree it was worth it.
Thanks for the offer of your truck Mark, we could use it for hauling astro into position, the rolls of astro weigh quite a lot but it was a piece of cake with a strop to haul the roll, then pull it out with the Jenkinson Clamp and my Hilux (yes I do miss it!) |

Hi chaps,
as Phil said, i walked the car park for a fair few hours yesterday and must have picked up a good 10 wheelbarrows of bits of sharp metal, nails, glass etc out of the new surface.
Cannot say it is completely clear as i'm not taking responsibility for any punctures etc!
i'm thinking it would be best that tomorrow night we all line up and walk the car park BEFORE DRIVING ON IT! just to make sure its kinder to our tyres (and visitors feet, had a few nails in my boots last night!)
There is also a bit of litter etc which could be collected as we walk the car park, will only take a few minutes and will improve the appearance, to be honest the photos make the car park look a bit rougher and messier than it actually is.
This is a minor drawback as the new car park looks brilliant, machinery did an awesome job and it now means a winter race series can be a realistic proposition.
A weekend work party would be good to spruce up and improve the venue a little, the track needs a bit of tlc with markings, weed removal and safety fences on corners etc.
i have been working on a regular basis at the track but more hands make lighter work and would be appreciated, will also ready the venue for some more weekend meetings etc so benefits all members.
If anyone has spare wood screws and nails taking up space in their shed then any donations would be appreciated as they are needed to carry out maintainance work at the venue and expensive to keep buying.
Hope to see you all tomorrow night,
Mark.

New Car Park Update:
Just been down to check out what the wet weather today has done to the new car park....
Good news is that there are no puddles and the dust has been washed away, surface is solid and wasn't disrupted by driving on it... wahey!
Not so good news is that the dust layer being damped down means the car park is now probably 3/4 inch lower, which has exposed more of the hidden waste metal and glass.
I was down over the weekend clearing as much as possible and thought it was pretty much covered... DOH!
If anyone can spare some time tomorrow afternoon before racing to help me pick up (more) debris to save tyres of visitors it will be appreciated, weather dependant of course!
I'll do what i can but you have been warned.
Cheers, Mark. |

Is it safe to assume that a little light rain won't deter men from being men and that tonight is still on? |

Yes, it is safe to make that assumption. As some say, no such thing as bad weather - just bad clothing!

Having arrived at the track today to find it seriously puddled everywhere, was very worried that we would have to pull the weekend Carnage meeting!
Fortunately it has stayed dry and has been very windy, when i left at 7:30 tonight the track was very dry with a few minor puddles in the low spots.
Iain and myself have been tidying, strimming, sorting track markings/fences and painting today ready to welcome our guest racers over the weekend.
Fingers crossed that it stays dry and we have a bit of sunshine on Sunday and everyone turns up as expected. |
