Hi All

A few years ago I bought a hyper 7 with the aim of getting out there and letting rip around the local track. Unfortunately after only 2 race meetings, the club moved almost 70 miles away which left me a bit stuck.

Since then I've not raced and have only attended 5 race meetings in all and would dearly love to brush the dust off my beloved hyper 7 and get racing again.

Having read a few posts on this forum I understand that there are meetings at an indoor venue. Is this venue also for Nitro buggies too or is this electric only ?

As a newbie, which i still consider myself despite having had a buggy for 5 years or so, i need to get racing again as I loved the buzz.

Can you tell me when you all meet up and if you have time for new drivers? (i'm sure I'll find out after reading more on the website )..I'm about 35 miles away..just up the A1 .

I could do with some suggestions on upgrades for my buggy too, but all in good time i guess.

anyhoo, I'm looking forward to hearing from you all

Evening and welcome Steve,

If you hunt round this site you'll find all the answers you'll need - if not, ask!

We are not running indoors for the 'summer' months - we have an outdoor track at Gonerby Moor near Grantham, albeit with car park issues but they are a work in progress. Racing will start on Tuesday evenings next month, and at weekends hopefully soon after. Access will be available free to paid up members - occasional users at a day rate for practice.

Tuesday's have always been club night, we do race - some even get serious, but mostly it's all a bit of a lark. For me it's an evening away from the house and work - if I finish three races I'm happy....Newbies and novices are always welcome - bring your gear and have a go - assistance and advice is always available and freely given (even if you don't want it!) that's what makes
it club night.

As regards your Hyper7, there are a few here that run them so there's advice available and parts sharing when necessary (a few have left the fold and gone for supposedly better machines) but Hobao's are very good club level racers (yes I do run one so am slightly biased.)

Keep an eye on this site and if you feel like coming down, just ask and we can help arrange a visit.

Cheers for your quick response !

sounds like just what I'm looking for.

I think i read somewhere that the track can be available 365 days. is that right ? the last club had tight restrictions on when you could run due to their location, hence them moving.

I would be intested in becoming a member. I'll have to get my BRCA membership upto date.

As for my buggy, its good to hear that the hyper 7 not obsolete. it had crossed my mind that I might have been running something that had become a wee bit old.

is there a meeting this Tuesday evening ?..if so..what time is kickoff ?

We are meeting at the track this Tuesady, weather permitting - not to race but to do a bit of maintenance - the rule is: do a bit of labour and you can 'practice' afterwards (until it gets dark - 2100 hours approx) some of us will be there from 1800hrs.

my best advice is to 'pm' me a mobile phone number and I'll send you a text around 1630 if the evening is cancelled for any reason - saves you a wasted drive.

The Hyper 7 obsolete ? NAH ! they're still making them....All you need is a good reliable machine and you can enjoy racing.
Remember the adage, 'to finish first, first you have to finish!'

Great sounds good.

I'll see if I can get my buggy back up and running this weekend and hopefully make the meeting on Tuesday night.

Do I need to bring anything for the maintenance on the track ?

btw..I've PM'd you.

Cheers

Steve

You might need fluid to drink - gloves would be handy as you're in IT, wellies if it's damp.
Buggy , fuel, glo-start, radio gear, the right attitude and a sense of humour...that's about it.

Got your message....

reet then...

the good news...my baby started first time !! couldn't believe it and it flippin ran ok too, though it seemed to be getting bogged down under hard acceleration..no idea what that is...too much fuel in the chamber perhaps ?? I did lean it out alittle and I thought it had helped but my flippin cut-out kicked in so I couldnt run anymore..apparenlty my receiver pack ran out of battery.... I only managed 2 tanks of the new fuel too...

the bad news, though not really that bad was that brakes were non existence...I even had to run myself over to stop the thing..bloody sore shins man..

Anyway, looking forward to getting down to the track for the first time. I understand its to be a maintenance night..I'll bring some gloves. is there anything else you need me to bring ? unfortunately I dont have any creosote brushes ;-(

btw, is Tuesday night a good time to discuss membership ?

Sounds to me like it needs a good tune up, there are 'experts' that decide if it's lean bogging or rich bogging.

If the brakes are non-existent then it could be simply adjustment required or the servo is struggling, if the battery pack died quickly then it won't supplying enough current to drive the servo with any conviction - are you using a four AA cell - disposable battery pack or are you using a rechargable 6v nicad pack? these alone can make a marked difference in radio performance both on steering speed and brake power.

Tuesday nights are a good time for all sorts - Chris (Admin) enjoys any excuse NOT to get his hands dirty!!

Bring all your gear down and we'll find people to help you out.....don't forget you'll get a text only if we are NOT turning up.

Thanks Phil !

I managed to sort the brakes out. The brackets that hold the braking bars (i'm sure I'll get the lingo soon enough ;-))were too tight ?!?..I've loosened them slightly and now I have brakes. Though I'm wondering how long thee screws will stay in having been slightly loosened. Anyhow, its coming together and I'm sure I'll findout tonight.

Yes I'd better speak to one of these experts as it almost stalled under full throttle, I had to back off to keep it going and ease the throttle on again.

Looking forward to meeting up and giving this buggy a proper run out.

Lets hope that you dont have to send that text !
