Hi chaps,
Iain and myself will be down at the track from 4:30pm to start to get the winter venue project off the ground.
If anyone fancies coming down a bit earlier to help tidy up Gonerby Moor track and help with tidying track markings or some weeding etc it will be appreciated.
We are expecting a good turn out this week as we hopefully have a large group of electric buggy and short course drivers coming to try the venue from another club, so lets make an effort and give them a good night.
I have been down today and been busy, hopefully a nice surprise in store for you all!
Admin... if you want me to fetch the race control gear and transponders from Lewis, so we can get set up and started promptly then let me know ; )

The track is dry after last nights rain... and the new obstacle is sat begging to be driven over!
I'll be setting race control up so it is ready, the earlier we start the more racing can be fitted in before dark.

Pity that plan didn't quite work out tonight, will try again next week!
Thanks to all who came, was a good nights racing i thought, lots of fresh faces and banter and some good ideas for future improvements.

Excellent evening's entertainment - shame it's not like that every week.
I think the 1/10th buggy boys put on a good show - some of the track is not really suitable for such small diameter wheels (bit like driving a real car over a field of real bricks!) but impressive driving nevertheless. If they were to be regular visitors we would have to modify the track for their benefit.
The Short course trucks needed that sort of numbers on track to make the spectacle more amusing, it's a while since I've laughed mid-race ! Talk about a giggle, the 'friendly' nudges and bumps adding to the 'cut and thrust' without anyone throwing their teddies out of the pram...
The maniacal Truggy drivers were a bit lacking in numbers - but there's not that many lunatics around.....maybe I should start racing mine again - if only to get in their way...
I must say that Mark (the Eager Beaver) Frecklychimp has done a brilliant job of tidying the track up over the last couple of months.
The little touches like the boards and safety netting has made a huge difference in drivability, vision and general appearance. The new table top admittedly is a work-in-progress - but an improvement with potential. THANKS MARK! |

Thanks Phil, i enjoy doing the work and last night was a good sign i hope of a busier future.
I tried to get round everyone last night and get track feedback, there were many good suggestions.
The areas to work at are the landing ramps for all jumps, something that has been mentioned a fair few times in the past but now the feedback is more specific the improvements are easy.
The table top was experimental for last night and i'll have a play with it before next tuesday to improve it based on info from last night, i did notice the amount of marshalling needed was a lot less in that section than before so an improvement for the better.
From what i gathered the 1/10th buggy guys like the venue and had fun, track needs some work to make it more forgiving with the cars being smaller and more highly strung but its the same story with work, landing ramps on the jumps, if we iron that problem out then we should be able to attract some more drivers and events for 2011.
A few members mentioned the safety netting on the far nitro section was helping them with reference points for driving lines back there, thats great, it was done to stop any run-aways from getting on the access road but a bonus if it helps lap times!
Big thanks to Admin, he was running around like a man possessed, trying to get photo's, in between racing, marshalling, sorting his 2 guests cars and race control. I heard a rumour there are a couple of hundred photo's taken from last night....

The short course race sounded manic, don't know what you lot were up to back there(in the also ran positions), i was trying to chase down the brushless powered one but there was a lot of noise and laughing.

The line "Do you want some airborne shots?" I thought came from you first - that's why I was camping it up......
The noise and laughing was possible only because the SC trucks being electric meant we could banter with the marshalls on track as well as the other drivers on the podium.....all good fun!
I am currently (no pun intended) using very old cells that just won't deliver the goods....Things will change when I get my Li-po's! (there is also a brusless conversion ordered but quite frankly I think it might be overkill) |

You certainly 'camped it up' well!
Its apparanent why the SCT's are popular, they are not particular pretty, not ballistically fast, don't exactly handle like a race machine but the racing is close and nudges are forgiving most of the time and without damage to the trucks, all leading to bringing fun back into the hobby.
I think they are great for beginners to the hobby as well, nobody seems to have issues and there is normally a full rostrum at the end of the race.
The 1/10th brushless buggies are very fast but very controlled and tame to drive, but when you make a mistake they are more likely to break.
I don't think it will be overkill to have more straightline speed, but you can only really go full throttle on the straight (need to convince the 1/8th nitro drivers yet!)
The LiPo's will make a big difference, your truck will be lighter too.
Did racing the nitro straight afterwards cause any issues? it must be hard remembering to follow the different track layout!

Agree it was a really good night last night, fingers crossed for more like that in the future!
A big Thanks to Mark for his track work and Chris for running round like a headless chicken keeping all the races going swiftly.
On another note... i snapped a front shock in the last race of the 1/8th buggy. Didnt notice till i got home that i have lost the coller at the bottom of the shock that holds the spring on. iam sure it went near the new table top but guessing a bit! If anyone spots it let me know, Its an oversize red alloy one. (prob a longshot but thought i would ask!)

No worries, if it makes for better meetings then the work is well worth it.
I'm going to have a look at the track in a bit to work out some jump profiling and tabletop mods,
will have a sweep round the track and keep an eye out for you,
there is a small collection of car parts found each week so if anyone does lose parts just check we haven't found it rather than missing racing with a broken car. |

In one of the SC heats I was clocked as only doing 7 laps and I did say before the listings went up that the machine seemed to have missed two or three laps!
Racing nitro afterwards wasn't too bad actually, the performance difference makes you think though - as regards directions - I just followed everyone else!

I was getting 10 laps Phil and can't remember passing you that often, but then again they all look the same wheels up!
Maybe worth letting Lewis know which transponder number you were in case one is on the blink, i'm sure i've had that before, there is quite a delay sometimes with the beep.
I've had a quick look around the track but found nothing red and shiny, will keep an eye out for it when i'm working though... and for rabbits with bling anodised jewellery! |

| I did mention it to admin - but with it being one of my PT's it's down to me. Admittedly I was cutting the 'loop' bend a bit close to the piping. And you know my SC10 corners really well....without turning turtle like the others. |

Maybe you where below the minimum lap time set for the SC class Phil... Having said that I don't recall hearing any early counts. I will check the settings.
Really enjoyed last night, would be nice to have some more truggy's though, bought time you got yours out again Phil?
Have to a agree the pink netting definitly makes that left side of the track easier to drive.
Also thanks to everyone for making Rolf and Craig welcome, looks like we have another two members.  |
