Top soil is always available F.O.C
I've heard a rumour that another old school member is returning with a Short Course Truck,
its all good that the class is growing, will soon have to be 2 heats, or since most are spektrum radio gear it could be an all in truck carnage heat!
Has the mighty Grasshopper got his new power supply yet? get the feeling that his will be the one to beat when its got some juice in the batteries. |

Negative on the new Li-po's dammit! - held at Customs - probably have to cough up some VAT for HMRC......probably going to cost me more overall than buying local, story of my life, never get a bargain.
Have converted to Spektrum though, so yes to the All-in carnage - but as so many are racing two vehicles a night, marshalling gets a bit neglected! |

The good news is 'Yes the Li-po's have arrived' The bad news is that buying from abroad has been a proverbial pain in the rump. Waiting time due to Customs, the VAT addition and the Parcelfarce 'service charge' has bumped the price up, so overall it's not really been that fantastic a deal. I will buy from Hong Kong again - but I'll do it if / when I go there on holiday (and make sure the damn places are open when I go).
The batteries have been charged - and tested in my SC truck - the increased performance is obvious - and as long as I can hold it in a straight line, certain 'boyracers' might be in for a good whuppin' !
P.S. Don't think the brushless set-up I bought is gonna be needed. |

Thats good news Phil, hopefully you will now be able to keep up with the new 'Chimp-mobile' (as you get lapped!)
The bogey coloured Strike is off to another winter SCT convert and now there is a tag team of Traxxas Slash's to contend with!
Although hopefully you will be soon united with your partner in SC10 crime, The new one turned up today and i like the pretty coloured bodyshell.
I'm sure it won't be long into the indoor racing until the majority are running brushless trucks, fastest truck between crashes wins!
The black truck from Skeggy on tuesday night was running a daft brushless set up, i was giving him a good run, swapping positions every corner for 2 races and there wasn't much in straight line speed...
especially since finding out it was a FOUR WHEEL DRIVE Hong Nor! |

Well I managed to take some time off Sunday afternoon and bunked off to try the new Li-po's - by the cringe, what a difference!
The speed is quite a bit faster - and the duration......I stood and drove round the short course sections, trying my hardest to keep it flat out whenever possible - 23 minutes later the low voltage feature kicked in and it rolled to a stop. This means that one pack could allow for 3 rounds - and possibly make it through a final. Not a bad deal for under £20(excluding delivery and VAT).
A combination to spank the monkey? |

I think your monkey spanking days are long gone! lol
Thats very impressive Phil, the li-po's i have been using have 50% ish run time left after a race with the Strike according to Lewis's test gadget, haven't checked when running them in the Slash, although they both run the same 550 12T silver can motor, which are allegedly same as a 17T 540 type motor.
I would have thought your set up will be quicker as you have a better quality motor.
It is amazing the difference li-po's make considering they only have .2V difference, my old Orion team nicads were pushing over 8V but only lasted 5 1/2 mins if geared sensibly!
your ass is still grass and i'm still the lawn mower! |

Just a shame it won't be this week we'll find out who's what, I doubt I shall be back in time to race Tuesday...
The cells I acquired are 35c 5000mAH so the runtime seems to be about right after I did a bit of trolling through other sites. I just need to check on how to set the slipper properly to ensure proper drive and efficiency. |

Personally i would lock the slipper up and then keep running up the straight, adjusting it back until it is launching without snatching or pulling wheelies if that is the case.
I prefer to have power at the wheels rather than traction controlled, its more fun being able to kick the back end out and slide on looser surfaces!
I used to run 2wd buggies with the slipper locked off and using left thumb control... oh and launch control on the Novak Cyclone programmer to help, but they ran ball diffs so transmission had some relief, with geared diffs there is nowhere for load to go except components, hence Losi Strikes eating original driveshafts.
As for efficiency... its racing, as long as it lasts 5 mins at full output then its good, although the thought of not having to recharge packs for entire meetings is good, no more putting in the used packs by accident and 'dumping' a lap or 2 into a race, or carrying extra gear when racing. If the slipper is too loose then your motor will get hot and you will lose efficiency through the slipping transmission too.
Not sure if i'll be over on tuesday either, have moved over to Skegness to find work for whats left of the summer before Uni course starts up again in October, have applied for 9 jobs in 2 days, if one comes up and won't let me play tuesdays then i will have to miss racing. |
