Hi Guys I'm from Bourne and new to RC Electric but not to RC. I have sort of inherited a monster beetle which was broken and i have now mended. Now I had to replace the motor speed controller so got a viper eco27 ESC to replace the stock one. Works fine on the stock 540 27T motor. But i've been to the big ebay shop and seen a Ansmann 15T motor which supposedly from what i've read should make my beetle go like stink. So I see that the eco27 has a 27 turn limit does this mean i cannot use it to drive a 15 turn motor or cant go above 27 turns???? Also will i need to change the pinion gear or stick with the stoch 10 tooth one??? HELP!!!! |

27t limit means you cant use lower than 27t, as lower "t" is a faster motor so it draws more current from the esc,
have you considered brushless? |

OK Thanks for that, but could you explain a little more about the difference between the motors and why are brushless better than brushed motors? Will it go faster last longer, be more reliable. I see they cost more! |

brushless motors are alot less maintenance and more reliable, also the use the power more economically than brushed, generally they are faster but it all depends on what "t" you go for,
brushless motors are rated differently though so your 27t brushed is around the equivalent of 13.5 -17.5t brushless again lower number = faster motor, good allround starting point would be a 10.5t system, http://shop.a1hobbiesltd.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=201_61_181&product_id=865
or if money is tight have a look at the "etronix photon combo's" they retail around £60-70 and are very good for the money, id reccomend the 9T version
Brushed motors when used alot do require maintenance on the internal parts such as the brushes commutators and springs, whereas brushless motors all you need to do is periodically oil the bearings |

Nice work guys...
a 9T brushless motor would tear a monster beetle gearbox to bits and then it would be dead as spare parts are like hens teeth.
Wouldn't be putting anything more than a 27T brushed motor in one due to medievel components and it will just spend its time waving front wheels in air... 27T proper stock motors in Midnight Pumpkins used to be funny but about the limit before shredding gears, plus they tend to explode when you hit things as they are going twice as quick as standard.
rather than spend silly money on making a monster beetle faster i would recommend buying another modern car that is more suited to the job of going faster, that has spares availability and actually handles so its useable... have a look at the Ansmann Macnum if you like cars/trucks with larger wheels, you get a motor with them to get started and they are around £50 new, plus they can be raced at some clubs. |
