Hi - just about to start this as a new hobby. Not had much experience, I once raced a 1/10th electric. Can you recommend what to buy for a 1/8th rallycross; is this the most popular series? Plus what is a good handset to buy?

Any help would be appreciated - but definitely want 4wd (unless they're all 4wd!!!).

Also will be coming down this Sunday to have a look at the set-up - what time does it start?

Cheers
(A green) JB Racing!

hi there, the trouble with asking that is most people say well its the one im running,iv raced MUGENS,XRAYS,HONG NOURS AND HYPERS,i found the best one for me was the hyper8 pro, dont go for the rtr as they are made out of jelly, the pro is cheap, but is as good if not better than mugen, there is a website for the hypers that the team drivers talk to you, there are tuns of spairs(which you wont need)and they are a realy nice car,i think TNX KING(BEN)runs one,you cant go wrong with most modern 40mg hand sets, its watever you want to spend,i think though most people are going for the 2.4gig,
hope this helps a bit

hi m8 welcome to rc there is a lot of buggys on the market at the mo it all depends on how much you have to spend.you can buy rtr kits for around £200 they include radios or you can buy a pro kit that start at around £300 then you have to buy the radio and servos plus engine you might be better off buying a second hand car that has had some hop ups done allready the cars to go for in rallycross are the hyper 8 buggy, hong nor cr,they are the cheaper cars but are very good and the spares are cheap and most shops stock spares for them.the other ones the cost more are the losi 8 and the xray and mugen mbx5 and the hyper 8.5 with them you get what you pay for a very good car radios it is personal choice sticks or wheel you would be better off with a spectrum controller as they are 2.4 gig radio that do not use cystals. if you buy a pro kit they work out a lot of money but are well worth it as then you can choose a engine but if you buy a rtr they come all set up with a engine and radio and you can upgrade it yourself bit by bit. hope this helps if you need any more help let me know and i will try to ask anything that you need to know.

Thanks for the advice - I'll go and have a look round Access Models and see what they've got and do a bit more research!

Hi as(Reg)pointed out the hyper 8 pro is good to start with,i had the rtr version first and found that many parts would brake,so then bought a pro version and used the rtr as a spare.I like you knew nothing as i've only been doing this now just over a year. Then got my son involved and bought him a hyper 8 pro.But like(casbuster)says the RTR is a ready to run which comes with engine and all electrics, but you will more than likely change them anyway.Parts are easily to come by for the hyper and they've just brought a newer version out which is the 8.5,but if your on a budget then look for a good 2nd hand buggy and buy the engine and servo's seperate.
As for going down the track on sunday might be a no no but keep yourself posted on here because you might be told otherwise it just depends on if the track is dry enough.
Always keep your options open as what to buy because you don't want to make an expensive mistake and say i wished i bought the other buggy instead.
Radio controller i bought the 2.4 ghz spectrum for the reason of not conflicting with people on controllers with crystals. If we can be of any more help just ask and someone will help on here if they can. Also if you need to chat in person i live and a few others live in Grantham if that helps any.
Chris
