Thought I would start a seperate topic for this as the other thread is getting a touch congested and off topic.
We need to change the format of a Tuesday now we are getting more and more drivers. Obviously we can't start any earlier then just after 7pm due to the distance people are traveling.
We have various suggestions including running only two heats, and not having the tea break.
My thougt is two heats with an easier wider track to accomodate more cars and keep the tea break...
so lets have your thoughts and suggestions. |

That sounds like a plan , It would also make the races much more fun as you can have more people to compete with |

| I would like to see the tea break stay. It brings a more sociable side to the evening. |

The tea break came about on those couple of occasions we had no p.c. and I still think it's a good idea, some feel it encroaches on what we're there for - basically racing only.
I disagree - it's club night so there should be some time to meet greet (and eat) - remember that some have come straight from work etc. and might need a bit of sustenance. It also helps our venue hosts financially and makes having us there a more viable situation.
So... how about starting that damn computer and letting it run the night! My humble suggestion is as follows. 7:30 - 7:35 race 1 / heat 1 7:38 - 7:43 race 2 / heat 1 7:46 - 7:51 race 1 / heat 2 7:54 - 7:59 race 2 / heat 2 8:02 - 8:07 race 1 / heat 3 8:10 - 8:15 race 2 / heat 3 8:15 - 8:35 break - eat pre-ordered food and drinks, chat / repairs 8:38 - 8:48 Final B 8:51 - 9:01 final A Clear up and away...
If we can organise pre-booking (either on-line or by text) you turn up, pay, fuel up and race. the schedule would have to be quite strict - but this way you actually get more racing AND a break. the 10 minute finals is something we've not done at Laughton and it might be a little smoky, but we can always cut them down to 7.5 minutes...
Comments please. |

Thought it was time I got my own name on here. I'm Steve young Phils(brushless Power)Dad.
Regarding above timetable, this sounds like an excellent idea, but the computer must be left to run once set, at moment it keeps getting reset as people can't hear when race is nearing start. A loudhailer would help this to signal 2 mins, 1min, 30 secs etc.
Not sure about long final, this would require re-fueling, as people will either be marshalling or driving there would be no-one to fuel them, also risk of fuel spillage on arena floor, which may not be good for horses. Can,t the finals be 5 mins long as well, the time saved would allow a 4min break between heats instead of 3mins as above, this would give a little bit more cleaning/repair time.

| 5 min finals would be fine. Not to sure what the owners would think if they saw fuel being spilt left right and center they may not be too pleased. Refueling an RC car in a pit stop isnt very pretty! |

As regards the soundless p.c. - this was discussed last week and I shall be bringing a spare speaker or two and Chris will be bringing our P.A. system that we used at Gonerby - hopefully that will solve that little problem!
With the 10 minute finals - you can always make an arrangement with your similarly numbered counterpart from the other race, bring a friend or relative (that's you Donk!) and regarding the fuel spillage - by the time they get horses where we've been - any fuel would have evaporated. No need for repairs/cleaning after finals, you've fiinished your last race - do it after or just take it home! |

| Meant cleaning/repairs between heats, if someone is on their own they only have 3 mins between end of their race & mashalling next race + 3 mins between end of mashalling & start of their own next race, probably long enough though. |

| Good point Donk, forgot about the horse 'fluff' round your axles and the cue for the compressor - maybe a re-think would be in order - or aim for 9:30 racing finish? If everyone mucked in it only takes 10 minutes to pack up.... |

I think you have hit a nail on a head there Phil - If EVERYONE helps to set track, MARSHALL and clear up at the end then as you mention, it would all be done in good time and would undoubtedly add to the amount of actual race time we get. There are at present a few that hardly help at all and it should be a stipulation that if you race.... you do these three other things as well. 19:00 hrs to 21:30hrs sounds good to me. It's only one night a week so I don't really think it's too much to ask if you do want a good night's racing.
BTW - there are only 7 more potential race nights before the clocks go forward |
