The last time I raced electric buggies race packs where NiCads, they cost in the region of sixty quid and you needed five or six packs for a days racing.

I have narrowed it down to a choice of two at the moment. One is a 5200mah with a 30-40 discharge the other a 5000Mah with a 40-50 discharge. Both hard case two cell.

So the question is which do I go for?

Any advice much apreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

Technology has moved on a bit since we used to run electric and I'm no expert but if go for the higher C rating (discharge rate) as it allows you to draw higher current levels so giving more punch. Unless you run super quick motors in your SC you might actually get 2 races out of 1 pack. You can charge them as many times as you like without discharging first, but give them about 45 mins to settle after a race before charging and you charge at 1C which is the Mah rating............

Simples........

sooo, go for the 5000mah with the 40c discharge.

This will give more puch but in theory less run time, even though I will probably still get two races out of one pack.

Does that sound about right then?

I'm currently (pun intended) 5000mAh Lipo's in my SCT - 17 turn brushed motor. After Sunday's races I was using one of those energy meters and my packs were down to 60% capacity after the 5 minute heats. They are 30c packs and I could probably do two races.

Point to bear in mind, with a correctly specced ESC if you have it set for low voltage cutoff for battery protection - when it's flat you WILL stop, no crawling over the line to finish!

Will you really need to draw 200 amps from your 40c pack? I'd go for the extra 200 mAh and finish...but I do drive more conservatively!
