Following a latish night at our 'committee meeting' on Tuesday, I got to bed by 0100 hours and was awoken at 0410 hours by a phone call from my son-in-law telling me I'm now a grandfather to a grandson!
My wife kept me awake by talking to friends on the phone - in New Zealand and then to our other kids in Manchester and Ibiza - crying, whittling and all the other daft things that mothers do..why she didn't bugger off downstairs I'll never know....then the feckin dawn chorus started. So my day started with a distinct lack of sleep!

Later on I had to shift all my jobs round to get the afternon off to go visiting to Derby Hospital, left there to come home, hit traffic due to rush hour, got back home at 1830, only to pick up my in-laws and drive them to Derby Hospital to visit their grand-daughter and new great-grandson! Finally got home at 2120 had to cook tea for me and her.....because she's feckin tired?

Not suprised Grandpa''s are always grumpy!

one consolation? I think my new grandson needs one of those new Associated 4WD SC trucks.....think I'll get away with it?

Its a boring old drive to Derby isn't it.... i would have made you a brew if you had sang me this:

I think if your grandson is to be competitive a Durango truck would be much more suitable as they are CE marked!

You could always paint it yellow and put tonka stickers on... then borrow it on a tuesday evening... its about the right size!

Sing that to you - I actually still have a copy on 7" vinyl - yes I'm that old....

The Tonka idea is actually a pretty good idea for a paint scheme - can I nick it?

Yeah, would suit an SCT, but you need to get 'plonka' in the same font to personalise it!

Phil, I can trump you..... Friday 13th at 2pm I became the Daddy. Lovely little girl and at the moment she is as good as gold so i might be able to slope down to the club on Tuesday and may even strike the car up for the week after next.

Sounds good that the committee seems to be up and running but we must not forget the commitment Chris has put in over the last few years.

Congratulations Dave, great news mate.

Nice to hear some of you are growing up!

There is room on committee for you, we need a 1/8th chairman but think you may be a bit busy for next 16 years or so?

Congratulations Dave!
Best start saving £20 a week, by time she's 20 you'll have deposits for the wedding. Hope mother and baby are both well?

Well actually Dave, Lee D nominated you for the 1/8th chairman role... but obviously it was a joke.

Look after your family and yourself and the hobby will always be there when you need or can get you time!

the 1/8th section needs the track modernising to same standard as new track and meetings running on it, with good marketing and promotion to get the drivers in, sounds simple but it takes commitment and a lot of time, realistically it will probably take a season or two to build the nitro membership back up to what the class deserves.

Apart from next sunday (29th May),11th/12th June, 14th August and 25th September the track is laying dormant at weekends this year so plenty of opportunity for some noisy slow car meetings!
