Hi guys, I got my brushless motor today and I have a few questions, why does the motor sound sandy when I run it (sounds like the spur gear is slipping but it's all ok when I trim it by hand) and there is a spare lead coming out of it with a 2 pin plug, anyone know what it is for?

Is it a sensored motor? The extra lead may well be the sensor lead. Have you had a look in the instructions? As for the noise I cant really say. Have you checked that the mesh isnt too tight? You should have a bit of backlash (play) between the spur and pinion gear. Stick a bit of paper between the two and tighten up the motor bolts whilst squashing the paper, that should give the right amount of mesh.

Ok I'll have a look, it's not a sensored motor or esc but there is a jst plug? And why does it have 3 wires? Yellow, red and black

Right, the extra JST plug is for a fan if you see the need to fit one.

As for why a brushless motor has 3 power leads...

Hope that helps. The instructions for that ESC arent very clear, not the ones I found online anyway!

Cheers tom, one last question, what are the 2 capacitors for on the battery lead?

Sorry but I have no idea! My knowledge of electronics is limited to plugging stuff in and the occasional bit of soldering

the 2 capacitors on the battery lead will be there to smooth out and control the voltage going to the esc, they store up power so that if there is fluctuations from the battery the capacitor effectively "tops up" the voltage, gives smoother power delivery to the esc leading to smoother power delivery to the motor with less hesitation

as it is a sensorless esc then the three power leads can be connected in different ways giving reverse or forward motor rotation (should be normal (forward) rotation for a blitz. sensored motors and esc's havce to be connected in a specific way other wise the wont work,

the noise could be just normal noise from the motor, (my lrp clicks when turned) or could be a damaged pinion or just a noisy bearing

Cheers Dave, I think that the pinion may be a bit to tight to the spur as I can't see it being a bearing or pinion as they aren't very old

don't need membership or insurance Will for this Sunday. You can race as a guest at the club three times before you have to have BRCA.
