Met a guy from Spalding yesterday that paints body shells for a living and races 1/10 electric, passed on club details and he may come over to Laughton sometime. His website is http://www.customblitz.co.uk/index.html if you want a look.

There's an awful lot to be said for the basic radios - right thumb for steering and left for throttle, reversing switches were a fantastic addition - but set it up with the linkages and that was it.
Now you press buttons and the chuckle pin falls out of the giggle bracket and you're stuffed! The settings all go up the Swannee and your models completely out of control...ArrgggH!!
I can remember the days (cue Hovis music...) you were posh if you had a joystick for even one channel, I started off with a 'bang-bang' set - just a button you pressed once for right, again for straight and then again for left and this all happened in sequence, so you had to remember which straight ahead you were on and then press the correct number of times to go the way you wanted - remembering that the rubber band that powered it was slackening off and getting weaker! It wasn't proportional like todays sets - it was as you set it up, all or nothing.
...computer radios? my first controlled aeroplane was control line - round in circles and just up and down....You young-uns don't know you're born ! |

Philip - I think you are grossly underestimating Carl's age here - he is in fact pushing early mid 50's. Isn't it just amazing what you can do with a 5 litre can of Grecian 3000 and a 3 phase Babyliss face massager |

I remember flying the old control line planes :) The old Vernon Hunt Warlord with a nice meaty Frog deisel engine stuck at the front - Soldering up the tin fuel tank - Tissue and doping the wings (in the early days) and then moving on to Solarfilm later on - Superb!!!
My first car was a Tamiya Boomerang closely followed by the good old, but V basic, Mardave Marauder. I had three of those at one stage  |

Looking good though Jim although you ara way off.
My first car was a PB International which I started with string wrapped around the flywheel. Second was a Mardave Marauder.
I too flew control line, stunt wings, small engines and wire control line....
Spent 6 months building a plane but gave up on that..... |

I had an old PB thing but couldn't remember the name of it.
Just remembered I also had a Kyosho Land Jump. Beautifully made chassis as I remember. |

That's what I like - nostalgia, it's not what it used to be....people talk about prices of things, my first 2 channel Futaba proportional set cost the equivalent of £40 (bought in Hong Kong 1972)- it's still the same, 2 channel gear £39.95 or less!

This weather worries me slightly - does it mean we might be short of numbers this Tuesday? Surely by tomorrow the gritters will have the main roads cleared and it will be safe to travel to Laughton.

| I wont be there tomorrow night. Getting there isnt a problem, its getting home that is. Coming home tonight and the A52 wasnt very nice to drive on, but Im sure itll be much better tomorrow. |

I think it will be just watery mush by tomorrow night. I hope it dosen't put too many people off - I need a decent heat to race in 
EDIT - No actually I hope there ain't so many there :) At least then there is a good chance there will be less heats and I will have some others to be racing against
