If that's the case, why not eliminate the centre diff altogether? no 1/10 electric buggies have them, the touring / tarmac cars don't have them either.

Wouldn't it just be easier to have a through shaft and connect the front and rear diffs - they're obviously necessary as the inner and outer wheels on a corner turn at different rotational speeds - front and back wheels (theoretically)on either side travel at the same rotational rate - so don't need the diff action.

i think its more to do with being run on loose dust, grass, astro, there are so many grip leavels at different tracks, changing the oil in the diff changes how much drive you get front to back,i think the thiner the oil the more the front drives,as you go thicker it moves to the rear,to thick and it will eather spend more time on its rear wheels on grippy tracks or doing donughts on loose,it depends also on driving style, most 1/10 off road have a slipper to adjust how much power goes to the wheels,tc always run on smooth tarmac so its more to do with tires

Far too technical for me, just know it works and I'm happy with it

The engineering side (mounting of engines, manufacture of a lay-shaft and spur gear, etc) would not be that difficult - it's a case of how would it drive.
The slipper clutches fitted to 1/10 electric and 2WD cars are usually regarde as their to protect the gear train from shock and kick-backs to stop it shredding the usually plastic gears, would hard landings do the same to 1/8 nitro's?
For reducing the break away of tyres on acceleration, rather than have the slipper, there's always the throttle.

I suppose another drawback could be that with a solid connection front to rear you would also lose any brake bias - but all that would mean is you'd have to adjust driving style.

the slipper only works for the first 3 ft when you pull off on 1/10 off road buggy,it shouldnt slip again unless you stop then pull off again, this is just a tunning aid for different wind motors to stop the car flipping over when you pull off,if you set it to slip every time you land it would melt in no time,2wd nitro have them as there is alot of weight in the car and it would burn out the the clutch and damage the transmition,if you didnt have a center diff it would burn clutches snap shafts and put to much load on the engine,if you get an old center diff and put some of that metal in a tube in it and give it a go..............let us know how you get on,i think ist the only way to find out,i think also you will struggle to much with understeer,
