Hi All,
Looking to get a buggy/truggy after a few years out. Use to have a Revo 3.3 and a Hyper 7. looking to drive around the local bmx track and park to start with as I am busy on a Tuesday night at the moment. May want to race in the future. Looking to spend no more than £300, and would like new.
I have heard that electric is the future ? But what is best. which is cheaper. how long does an electric run for ?

tuesday nights are electric only at the minute and will be for a couple of months yet as we are indoors so cant run nitro's if your really looking for something you can race and have fun with on the bmx track/park, i would suggest a short course truck and for £300 you can get a very good one, http://shop.a1hobbiesltd.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=201_61_158&product_id=182 thats a hpi blitz good strong 2wd truck fine for racing and bashing, or if you want something more like a rallycross buggy to drive check out the 4wd short couse trucks such as the losi hong nor or durango's. modern electrics have very good runtimes easily as much as a tank of nitro and you can carry more than one battery and dont have to worry about tuning an engine!
if you do want a nitro though for a rtr car on your budget your going to be looking at hypers still and possibly xtm's and some ansmann cars (if you do go for a version 2 car), or go second hand look on sites like maxbashing for some good deals |

long time no see, hope you and the family are all well. Hyper 7 is still good for club level or the new RB One looks good.
Electric wise, it has to be a short course truck, far more suited to bashing then a tenth buggy. as Dave says HPI Blitz is a solid choice. A very popular truck and almost indistructable even in my hands.
Even Pat Piesley has a Blitz.

Brushless and lipo batteries are the future of electric, I have a Fusion Exceed motor and speedo combo in my blitz and run Turnegy 5000C batteries from HK. I can get 15 mins ouf of a pack, proberly nearly 20 mins if I push it. |

| The blitz is probably the toughest truck that I have seen, only ever broke the front hub but the car is supplied with spares (although they are inline hubs) I drive my truck very harshly, just ask Dave and it seems to take all of the punishment of the track and carry on, if you can come down one Tuesday for a bit let me know and you can try mine, there is only one upgrade that is a necessity and that is to upgrade to brushless, the steering servo isn't the best but it gets it round ok. |

| Tamiyas are kits, but most of them aren't up to racing spec. Alternatively if you have a big budget then ou can go to stuff like mugen nitro buggys but they don't come cheap, ansmann make a few trucks that would be up to club standard such as the mad rat and macnum |

So what will it cost to get a Blitz up and running brushless. I still have a Nosram Sirius system charger but it won't charge LiPo. I should think any of my old 3300 cells will be no good anymore as they havn't been charged for 3 years. I have a few servos but I doubt they will be good ones.
Are the kit tyres any good ? how long does a set of tyres last (racing)
As for building I could spend Christmas day taking apart and Boxing day rebuilding.

Waterfroof electrics, 2.4ghz radio, brushless, 4x4, almost bulletproof and will run on your nicd/nimh barreries.
And for racing the Slash 4x4 is OK, it will never be great but its OK!
Or if you want to race then the HPI Blitz is the one that is most popular, or wait for the new Durango 2wd short course truck!

| My blitz cost me £500 for the car, 2 batteries, a charger, set of tyres and membership at the club for a year, standard tyres are terrible on the carpet track, but minipins are the best I have seen, £45 for rims inserts and tyres and i have used them for about 4-5 meetings and don't wear that much |

Not the strongest plastics available - mechanical and electrics okay.
Have to agree with the other comments about electric, except the only time you get a nice aroma is when it catches fire and the addictive nitro noise is missing - but with the advent of 'not that expensive' lipo and brushless systems - that's the easy route to clean, quiet and convenient power and performance. |

If you are looking at spending around £300 you could get a ansmann CORE short course truck which comes in kit form,with a 2.4G tx/rx (sticks or steering wheel)an etronix brushless combo and a lipo+charger for about that price from A1 hobbies ltd or the blitz with a brushless combo and lipo+charger for around £310ish. both would be very competitive with the Blitz being the toughest out of the two but the ansmann i would say in the right hands is a Short course sleeper! great handling and comes with a ball diff as standard this SC will need more attention than the blitz. If you are looking for something just to throw on the track and race with very little maintenance the Blitz would be right up your street. |
