To all of you that turned up this evening and shifted that 15 tonnes of planings - THANK YOU! The tidying of the infield, the repairs to the jumps, the laying of the bricks.....a good evenings work.
Those cheapy spot lights worked well too - maybe worth a little investment next year to extend Tuesday evenings outdoors....never thought for one minute they would be as effective as they were. |

Had some good banter, got a shed load of work done and the venue is looking very spanky!
A big thanks to everyone that turned up to help, we are not far off being ready for the weekend 'Carnage' meeting and the winter series which is a matter of a few weeks away.
Those lights were good Phil, kept us working for another hour after the sun was turned off... just applying the aftersun lotion!

With your lack of 'thatch' maybe you ought to wear a hat - or maybe a nice balaclava might do you (and us) a favour .
And talking of banter - constantly berating poor Chris has to stop, he may end up with a complex....

Cheers Phil, thats my keyboard covered in tea laughing!
lack of 'thatch'... i love that one, classic!
Its getting to that time of year where the hats will be needed to keep the old brain warm and working, you are lucky to have a full 'thatch' at your age.
thing is i only lost my hair worrying about your grey hairs though!
Chris knows i love him really (in the biblical sense) will give him a big hug next time i see him! |

At least grey hair can be dyed, not that I would be so vain - but at least I have options, rather more than shave, polish or comb-over?
Yes, I am blessed with strong hair and all my own teeth (and no fillings either) that comes from pure thoughts and clean living, the fact that my back's shot, my guts play up and I'm losing the sight in one eye is nothing - at least I'll look good when I sat in my 'bath-chair' smelling of pee.
And yes, I am old enough to be your father... don't make it public knowledge - more worrying than all of the above, this 'bromance' with Chris...... |

'bromance'... another classic for the archives! Phil i'm learning new funny phrases everytime we cross paths, keep up the good work!
You missed out wigs... i fancy a big 'legoman' style ginger one myself.
Anyway, back to the Gonerby Moor point....
Have put in 4 hours of strimming this afternoon as i got out of school early, will be down at the track all day friday to get the venue looking its best for our many visitors this weekend.
The track does look very crisp with its black infield sections, contrasting nicely with the pink fencing and yellow hoses.
It would be interesting to see comparison shots from clay to present day, even from a year ago the venue has improved tremendously. |

I have about 30 6" pedestrian barriers up for grabs, are they wanted for the track? They are plastic, approx 6" x 1" thick, some are red/white striped and some are just white, some are 1mtr long and some are 2mtr long. I need to give them a good clean but they may be usefull for something? They are designed to go between posts as temporary pedestrian barriers but they have been sat at the bottom of my compound for the last 7 years and I was going to scrap them. |

They'd always come in handy , so yes please! We acquired some of those once before and they make excellent track markers / edging but can be a little fragile.
They could be pressed into service at our winter venue - if they were screwed to the timber they could prevent people cutting corners! (Yes - me included!) |

Evening all. Tis the season to dig some holes and move some muck!
Yes Tom track work tommorrow night. RAIN or SHINE
On that note:
Mark is muck shifting tomorrow. Ian is delivering at 7:30am a mini digger and dumper along with some building materials. So if anybody can go down and help Mark it will make his life much easier, and make better value of the cost of the plant.
Tomorrow night it is all hands on deck. There are many jobs that need doing. So if everybody could bring:
Wheelbarrow Shovel Rake Hand tools Power tools (inc. circular saw) Nails/screws etc. Paint brushes/fencecare brushes.
Please don't assume somebody else will bring tools and equipment. If you have it please bring it!

You are obsessed with digging holes Chris... is it you burrowing in the jumps down there? will be calling you Bugs from now on!
By all means if anyone can help tomorrow then will be appreciated... I can't play with 2 boys toys at once... although Chris and Ian have pulled a blinder in organising a dumper as well as a digger... will save lots of physical muck hauling, thanks guys.
I'm aiming to get as much heavy work done as possible in the time available with the big tools... there are lots of mini projects to be sorted asap.
If anyone has a spare window frame or even a complete unit, or hear of one going we can salvage and fit in the back of race control so Race Director can see both rostrums then it would help the cause... will get some dimensions tomorrow.
Look forward to seeing the A1 crew tomorrow evening... don't work too hard in the daytime, save some energy for some landscaping fun!
fingers crossed on the weather now! |

There's been a very productive day down at the track - a lot of soil and spoil has been shifted to create new sections of track and features for the 1/10 electric boys to enjoy, cleverly designed to integrate with the existing 1/8th and enhance that also.
We had a good turn out of willing labourers this evening to continue the work that Mark had performed through the day with the digger and dumper the club rented with help from young Ian. A bit of shuttering has been installed to hold up the new banking and jumps for the 1/10 section and for one day's wok, it's looking pretty good!
Even one new chap, Andy who only turned up to have a look ended up getting his hands dirty - they say one volunteer is worth ten pressed men - we had a few volunteers tonight, well done fellas, the hard work will be worth it in the long term.
Anybody willing to get stuck in over the weekend mention it here - Mark is probably down on Saturday - he's earning the mantle of project manager, deservedly so .. and will be glad of some help - Every Tuesday for the rest of this month is supposed to be a work night - the more volunteers the quicker it's all complete. |
