A 7pm start does not help those of us that struggle to get there for 7pm. A 7pm start will mean there is no point in me turning up, simple as that!!
Its seems rather daft to rush and start racing at 7pm; which will exclude people like me; have a couple of races and then stop for 1/2 an hour. That 1/2 an hour break, then excludes people who need to leave earlier than most.
You lost a new member a few weeks ago. He turned up did 2x races then everyone cleared off to the cafe for 40 minutes. He had to leave at 8:45pm and so packed up. He was ranting about what the point was making the effort to turn up and race, paying money and then everyone clearing off to have a chat and coffee.
A race period between 7:30pm and 9.00pm give 18x 5-minute slots. If half of those 5 minute slots are transistion periods that give 9x 5 minute slots for actual racing. 3x heats of 3x races fills up those 9x 5-minute slots nicely. This also gives a racer a 25-minute gap between each of his/her races to have coffee and grub if they so want.
Just a thought and its all about compromise in the end. Do you exclude people who cannot arrive early or thos e who need to leave early? |

Totally agree. The break in the middle isn't really needed as far as I am concerned and totally detracts from what we are all there to do - race!
Can we please try and remove it and allow for more heats.
Anyone can get a bite to eat and a drink throughout the evening
Nick - you don't race anymore? - you faff |

Race????
I thought the whole idea was to 1) turn up, fiddle with truck/buggy (delete as appropriate, 2) fail to get it started and running properly 3) fiddle some more and start cursing and hitting it 4) give up and chat to everyone about the price of fish 5) go home, having had a thorughly enjoyable evening NOT racing your buggy/truggy (delete as appropriate).
Happy days!! |

All points are valid.....but to clarify,
The break in the middle was to allow those that wanted to to get a bite to eat and a cuppa. It was also an opportunity to chat socially and try and get a bit of money over the counter for our hosts, to subsidise the rent. When it was instigated we were only running two races of three heats, so basically we were able to run them through very quickly. This meant you would race / marshall /race / marshall with little or no time for cleaning, repairs or adjustments. Last night was an exception, numbers were up and there were three races - which meant you got more time between marshalling and your next race, so admittedly, the half time break was unnecessary.
Now before anyone complains or takes offence - and there's none intended. Tuesday nights are (as someone said) a compromise, we all know that some finish later than others, travel further etc. But have you all noticed how it's generally the same people that set up the track, organise the computer, bring the compressor and then clear up at the end of the night?
If we can keep numbers up so as to need three races and everyone helped do the above jobs then we could start at 7:30, set the computer to run the evening non-stop and get in the full complement of races/heats as required and be done for 9:30, cleared up and away by 9:45. In between individuals can order food/drink and have time to eat it, but to do this we've all got to muck in.
We have the technology to book-in (on-line /text) the night before if need be so you just turn up, pay your fees and the computers ready to go.
We don't want to alienate or exclude anyone - speaking up on the night would be better, (I didn't even know we were on tea break until I looked up and you were all gone!) that way we can sort it there and then if need be.

Fully understand, I personally had forgotten about the host and the great facility's he offers, don't know his name, and favouring him so we don't put the venue in jeopardy is the correct thing to do. I suppose he would just shut up shop if no one used his facilities - I know I would! My previous comments duly retracted.
I am quite happy starting at 19:00hrs, all the more race time.
I try and help out as much as possible and always will as I feel it's only right to put something back into the club. Give and take and all that
I thoroughly enjoyed my little spats with Chris, it was good to be able to race someone with such a small number of cars on the track.... 2 It felt competitive even so and that's what it's all about.
Carl - you gotta fling the wonga mate - Get an MP9

If we get the same numbers next week let's just have two races of 8 - that'll make it more interesting and stop this two car display race...
Fling the wonga for an MP9 ? - when you've got it all sorted you'd be looking at a grand's worth of kit...! for club level like we do, stick with the Hyper 7 more than adequate, more capable than the drivers skill. We're obviously not as well off as you Smog! We can't criticise you Smog, two months of marshalling without racing? that's dedication!
Another query for you raised by a new visitor on Tuesday. The lad (compared to me most of you are lads-no offence meant) in question didn't bring all the supplied parts of his RTR just in case the regulars thought badly of him...so, How much gear do you have to turn up with before everyone else thinks you're a poseur?

Just to put things straight here I ain't rich..... Far bleedin from it! I had to sell one of my beloved laser systems that I had spent many many hours reconditioning to get the car I have now. It was a gut wrenching event but it had to be done
I was only joking anyway about the MP9 - Carl is Hyper7 born and bread. Nice car though! |

Great night on Tuesday. Some good racing going on. Always good to see some new faces aswell!
Please dont take this next part the wrong way anyone!! Putting out the track at the begining of the night is, I think, one of the most time consuming jobs of the evening. As Phil said, the more people we have to build it, the quicker it gets built. So, dont feel intimidated or anything Just pick up some pipe and go mad!! Thats what I do anyway I also think getting some different people helping with the track will get some new ideas e.t.c Like having the rostrum on the opposite side of the arena. Great idea, and a great track came out of it!
Bye Bye!

Another possible idea - A chicane?
Somewhere on the track where only one car can get through? |

| A chicane?....you worry me Jim. You'd have to make something with high sides so you can't drive over it |

You got me thinking now Carl
You could do it roughly with guttering surely? Just squeeze it together just bigger than the biggest car and bob's yer uncles nephew! Just need to make sure it stays the same distance.
Would it also be worth bringing a hacksaw to take off some of those sharp ends of the guttering? some are getting a bit dangerous. |

| True Carl, we did have a chicane on one track but it was wider and thats when the club had less indoor members. |
