Tuesday 14th Oct.
A reasonable turn-out, lots of new faces yet again - both racing and spectating, most of these have heard about us through the internet or by word of mouth. Sir Harvo however, has been more productive and introduced more people to the club with the mention of more for next week (do you think that he's after making up a contingent of his own? the 'Bourne Supremacy'?). even the staff from Laughton Manor are getting involved, Callum has bought an H7 ready for next week!
Seem to be having a proliferation of Hobao H7's ....Mind you 'Team Marshall' turned up tonight with Josh running an 8 - 'bout time you started club racing again. We've got to get Ben and Chris sorted, maybe if they pooled resources they could get one working buggy out of their two....or am I just being nasty?
Personally , I thought the track layout was a bit 'technical' this week - but I'm quite keen on ovals - easy to drive, can see why the Yanks like NASCAR, it's simple - Go fast, turn left! But like we've always said - if you don't like it - turn up early and lay it how you like it.
I reckon that Laughton Manor is suitable for 1/10th electric off-road - and if there's anyone that would like to have a heat of those, we could accomodate them if there was sufficient numbers - it would also allow time for the air to clear. I'm sure I've still got my Schumacher Bosscat somewhere....
Comments always welcome, see you next week !

It was a good night with a few more there.
I liked the track layout, once I'd got used to it. The only problem I had was ripping a tyre when hitting the end of a piece of guttering....
Not sure of "Bourne Supremacy" that suggests we might actually be good at racing, we can certainly fill all the bottom lines on the results sheet.
Most of the newbies i've introduced are ex kiters. We used to race parakarts or freestyle buggy (Ritchie).
Just paid for 2 more Hyper 7's for 2 of my boys, best get some more crystal sets. |

cough, cough ......... I spent the last week rustling up 2 extra 'victims' for last night!! I'm trying to convince the guy that spectated to get a buggy. Richie with his wheeling Buggy really enjoyed himself and will make an appearance again.
The track was easier than last week and the jumps easier to line up, so that suited me just fine!! Judging by the amount of sandy surface wrapped around drive shafts and wheels and fact that I found my buggy harder to control this week, I's assuming that the surface was alot softer and looser than the previous 2 weeks.
Would the transitions between races be shorter to accomodate the extra heats for electric? I personally struggle to get to the meet before 6:45pm due to the distance I travel and don't get home until 10:30pm at the earliest. An extended total race period could possibly impact on me, obviously not sure about others.
Definately a cracking venue though, with superb facilities way beyond what I'm used to in powerkiting. |

Sir Harvo, never implied skill - just numbers!
In general terms, if we got better organised (HA!) it would be possible to start (for example) at 1900 hours if we used phone or on-line booking in, and left the computer to run the evening with no breaks, currently we're doing 5 minute heats and 10 minutes in between, so in theory you could reduce that and squeeze in the extra heats - you'd have to do it if you got more than 10 vehicles in a heat anyway....
So, for arguments sake, we're currently doing 90 minutes total at 3 x 5 minute heats for buggy and truggy classes. Some of the big clubs run heat after heat, one heat waiting to go one as soon as the last heat's finished -literally non-stop action. Working on a 1 minute changeover you could get 5 sets of 3 x 5 minutes heats in a 90 minute period! Hectic, and not very socialable, but 'do-able'. Coupe, you'll probably you're getting more muck as you are now driving that bit quicker - confidence rising and all that! The muck round your axles is a pain, but this business of making guards and works really well - as there's a predominance of Hyper 7's I'll try and post pictures of the one's I made (copied from Andy Flear's truggy) from recycled pop bottles. In fact, it would be as easy to supply a template for those interested - Works for me!
As regards better facilities than power-kiting : facilities: good - wind: indoors, doh?
I only get home by 2220 - so you must motor a bit, just remember when you leave the track you're not racing anymore - or are you?

I have mudguards fitted, but THIS WEEK only the same wheels were packed with sand, they didn't get hardly any last week. The Truggy's drive shafts with mudguards were jammed solid (literaly) and stopping the engine. It seemed to point to a difference in the surface and someone did comment that the arena had not been rolled this week which maybe explains it. Not a complaint at all, just an observation.
Not understanding your reply regarding facilities Facilities for kiting were usually sparse and often pretty grotty at best. Burger vans and a discreet tree were the norm. Its nice to have a properly segregated pit area and posh toilets with running water AND a canteen!! Again not a complaint, quite the opposite, a compliment.
Journey to the meet is 1 1/2 hours minimum for me from work via home, due to rush hour traffic and I never leave work before 5pm. Journey home is a brisk 45 minute drive. |

My flat plastic mudguards worked a treat and I had nothing on the driveshafts at all.
Smog, one of the spectators last night, has "found" a sheet of 1mm thick carbon fibre Hmmmm, some tinkering to do...
I struggle to get there before 7 with children all over the place... |

Hello Everyone, I was the amateur that decided to bring a 2WD stadium truck to the racing!
But I had a great deal of fun and I cant wait until next week, (Im glad to say that multimap was wrong with its time of 45 minutes from stamford) Just have to hope that i can find some diddy nuts and bolts as I lost one of my bolts from my front turnbuckles :(
Carl as i mentioned last night I have about 6 sets here, I thought they were in my box though...
Grasshopper, if you had seen the cars they all turn up in racing off home is the only option ;)
I am meant to finish at 4 but rarely do I ever do that. I need the overtime to pay for kites and nitro.
Thank you for making me feel so very welcome, shame I cant fit my kiting ramp in the car, that would be interesting to put in the middle of the course...
FINALLY(ish) Do the results of the racing get published on here anywhere?
Ri chie
PS Nick(Coupe-se) invited me to come to the racing not Carl (Sir Harvo) PPS Nick, when are you going to drop the Coupe-se name, you haven't had that car for about 4-5 years now... |

Richie ............. every forum i go on I'm known as coupe-se and its just easier to continue using it (I also lack imagination and can't think of a suitable alternative). Realised when I got home that you have your astra Coupe back now.
Carbon fibre ........... naerly as sexy as stainless steel.
Carl, you're gonna have your hands full prepping 3 cars per race!! |
